- Zokkiie26. dubna 2026Read the book about a week ago, and honestly this is a really strong adaptation. It keeps the same unsettling vibe while adding its own style, and a lot of it still feels surprisingly bold for something made in the early 30s. Fredric March is fantastic and fully commits in a way that could’ve easily come off silly but doesn’t. A few scenes drag a little and some of the side characters feel thinner than they could’ve been, but that’s about all I can really knock it for. The atmosphere is great, the transformation stuff is still impressive, and it has way more bite than I expected. Really good watch.

Based on the story by Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr. Henry Jekyll believes that there are two distinct sides to men: a good side and an evil side. He believes that by separating the two, man can become liberated. He succeeds in his experiments with chemicals to accomplish this and transforms into Hyde to commit horrendous crimes. When he discontinues use of the drug it is already too late.
