- vangh129. července 2025Re-visited this in theatre for the re-release, having not seen it for approximately 20 years but having fond memories of it. Having seen a couple of interviews with Kevin Smith where he insists Dogma isn't meant to be an inflammatory work lambasting religion, it's really clear that that's true. Of course, he takes a lot of creative liberties with the good book as well, in the name of interesting storytelling, and he is just an irreverent storyteller by nature so it's nonetheless no surprise how much negative backlash this has seen. He also described it as a bible story by way of badass superheroes and super villains and it's easy see the overlap there for sure. This time around I was struck by how 90% of the dialogue in this thing is either exposition or a throwaway joke (the former being necessary given the marriage of high concept plot and religious mythology, the latter because Kevin Smith) but it still works because the idea and execution are just that fun, and because the other 10% of dialogue is pretty much every character getting at least one badass monologue.
- Sean Bell12. ledna 2026A critical piece of movie history, with Matt & Ben, Jay & Bob somehow coexisting with their wildly different comedic styles. A little bit of dated humour, but the premise is solid, and the social commentary holds up. Light hearted and dark at the same time, just the way I like it.

Katolická církev se potřebuje zviditelnit a tak vyhlásí velkou akci s možností očištění od hříchů. Stačí projít v den konání slavnosti portálem kostela sv. Michala. Toho se rozhodnou využít Bartleby a Loki, dva padlí andělé, které bůh vyhnal z nebe, když odmítli plnit jeho rozkazy. Jenže pokud by se jim to povedlo, měli by cestu zpět do nebe otevřenou, čímž by zvrátili boží rozhodnutí a to by znamenalo konec světa. Aby se tak nestalo, obrátí se na rozvedenou Bethany Slaone, která je sice katoličkou, ale víru už dávno ztratila, serafín Metatron, který je zástupcem a mluvčím boha, a snaží se ji přesvědčit, aby se vydala do New Jersey oba padlé anděly zabít a zachránit tak svět. Slíbí jí dva pomocníky a ochránce, kterými se stanou svérázní drogoví dealeři Jay a mlčenlivý Bob. Ti ji hned druhý den zachrání život, když je přepadena Styxskými trojčaty, pomocníky démona Azraela, který má v plánu zničit boha a chce k tomu využít právě dvojici padlých andělů...
