I know these movies may not land in order, but he will make wind talkers, which I liked, but his acting wasn't anything to care about, then you have Leaving Las Vegas, or hell do Snake Eyes, which he sucked even worse, and then you get raising Arizona, or Bringing Out the dead. He definitely has talent, but he doesn't elevate films, he just does what that film needs. Massive Talent I think was great that he played a exaggerated version of himself, or maybe an exact, but Bringing out the dead is a film you can't miss, it's offbeat, it's funny, it's serious, and it's sad. Scorsese on the walkie system and queen latifah is good enough by itself as well and Ving Rhimes, and Patricia Arqutte, I think, just a great cast and good script with great pacing, but also, u feel part of the chaos.
- tellum15. července 2026I’m unsure if this is intended to be a dark comedy or not, because I couldn’t help but laugh at how absurdly depressing every scene was. I guess Scorsese wanted to create the most nihilistic world imaginable and film it in a noir style. All the acting performances are over the top, with Nick Cage giving an all timer even for him. The cartoonishly high levels of darkness and drama border on being surrealist, so if that’s your thing then give it a watch.
- cultfilmliker4. ledna 2026Who knew the life of an EMT was so harrowing lol What a cast!! Michael K Williams very good in a tiny bit part! All Cage’s partners and associates are great. Tom Sizemore is too good at playing his part, as we’ve seen. Loved the cinematography. Between that and the cast, I got lots of Tarantino vibes The direction during the fence scene was spectacular. *Marty Scorsese voice* that’s cinema 🙌

- EdmondZippo17. května 2026Too much death at the bottom of the canyons of steel of Scorsese's beloved New York. Schrader's script is a precursor to his recent trilogy of men who suffer and suffer, partly at their own hand, until they find solace in the promise of a woman's love. How are we supposed to go on, when facing so much distressing misery, the story asks. Oftentimes, the answer is surrender, but to what? The bottle? Jesus? The emptiness? As a watcher of The Pitt, I feel like I'm qualified (I'm not, this is a bit) to give my opinion on the realism of the medical gestures performed in this film. Look, it's not great. I've seen better. I very much enjoyed the frenetic quality that the camera conveyed. Speeding through a diseased city, living days of nights. The obvious stylistic comparison is After Hours (can someone gift me that Criterion 4k release? Anyone?). The city never sleeps. Some has to accompany her dead or dying children to the next step in their journey.
