Aquaman stands comfortably on its own, proving that myth, humour, and spectacle can coexist without leaning into relentless darkness. The real-world controversies surrounding the cast may cloud its future, but as a standalone film, it holds up remarkably well. You can tell it’s having fun with itself, which makes it easy to go along with. It drags a bit in places and not every part hits, but there’s so much going on that it rarely gets boring. Messy at times, sure, but in a way that still feels entertaining rather than frustrating.
