Alpha is another deeply symbolic, emotionally heavy film that refuses easy answers. On the surface it’s about a mysterious viral outbreak that evokes both the AIDS epidemic and COVID, but beneath that it’s a coming-of-age story about family, inherited trauma, and the scars we pass from one generation to the next. The performances are excellent across the board, carrying the film even when its symbolism becomes dense. More than anything, Alpha leaves you with a lingering sense of helplessness and sadness that stays with you long after it ends. At just over two hours, it could have benefited from a tighter edit. And like Titane, this is definitely not a movie for everyone. But if you’re willing to embrace ambiguity instead of demanding explanations, Alpha is a haunting and rewarding experience.

And it did not come close to clearing it! They had me in the first half, ngl Some cool ideas and visuals esp the body horror and that last shot. Great acting! Should have lost the flashbacks!! - Stephen Guerrero22. prosince 2025A Soul Crushing Drama This opening scene looks so innocent, and then it becomes completely heartbreaking when you realize exactly what is going on. Be prepared for a shock, as this is unlike anything I've ever seen on film and truly beyond words to describe. We've now got a refreshing look at family life amongst the trauma these people are facing, and it's wonderfully comforting. I've not seen the underlying epidemic that this family is dealing with from this side, and it's being portrayed in the loudest way I've even witnessed. The film is visually demanding on the senses, and you can't be sure how to feel or if there is any sense to the madness. In the midst of the tragedy that is the plight of the film, there is a rebellious outpouring showing the will to live.
