Kde se dívat na Jiný člověk
- Varun14. listopadu 2024A very interesting movie that challenges you with deep questions on identity. It instantly reminded me of The Substance (2024) but I think this movie does a way better job exploring multiple themes. Do our desires really belong solely to us or are they inextricably shaped by society? Where does our self-worth come from? The meta narrative was handled really well. There’s a mix of different genres, I do think the satirical elements were pretty good right up until the end where I felt like the story got a bit silly and rushed but I don’t think it diminished the rest of the film. Edward’s arc for the first half of the film was really well developed, a very empathetic look on his life that validates all his feelings. And the second half of the film is a painful glimpse of his unrealised potential that could’ve been unlocked with an unrelenting confidence in himself but unfortunately the sin of envy is too strong to escape. There’s tons of lessons here on how we should treat ourselves and others. A situation like this could happen to anyone, and this movie reminds us to reflect on our actions and realise what’s really at stake when we give up control of our own impulses and dreams to society.
- Garrett Wilkinspřed 5 dnyDirector Aaron Schimberg operates in the space of dark, psychological comedy to examine the internal nature of insecurity. Rather than relying on standard medical drama tropes, the script focuses strictly on the contrast between physical transformation and mental stagnation. Sebastian Stan anchors the project with a performance built on quiet resentment, effectively illustrating a man whose primary obstacle is his own self-pity. Adam Pearson provides a necessary counterweight, using sharp comedic timing and natural screen presence to highlight the absurdity of the protagonist's crisis without reducing the character to a simple foil. While the conceptual irony drives the early momentum effectively, the execution eventually stretches the premise thin. The narrative relies heavily on a dry, deadpan tone that intentionally traps the protagonist in a repetitive cycle of jealousy. This stagnant progression inherently caps the film's potential and prevents it from achieving a higher score. Viewers looking for an emotionally resonant character arc or a clear moral resolution will likely find this structural choice alienating. Ultimately, the film serves as a cynical, sharply observed experiment in identity that relies on precise character dynamics rather than high-concept twists to make its point.
- vangh114. prosince 2024When you think of writing advice for protagonists, they always say the protag should be the driver of the plot, they should know what they want and take steps to get it; a passive protagonist is a weak protagonist. This movie has a protagonist who's unsure of what he wants, who is constantly plagued by self doubt, and whose decision making process is greatly impacted by his perception of others' perceptions of him. And the movie is an absolutely fantastic examination of the character not in spite of this but because of it.
- thereelvoice30. dubna 2025A Different Man is a story about content and being careful about what you wish for. We follow an aspiring actor who wishes to change his appearance and his dream face becomes a reality. However, as he looks to star in a play, his new life becomes an absolute nightmare. This is a psychological dark comedy that isn’t full of laugh out loud moments but brings uneasy and nervous chuckles. A fantastic film that questions what it truly means to be happy with what we have and how gratitude truly goes a long way. Sebastian Stan is accompanied by Adam Pearson and Renate Reinsve as they deliver layered story that will leave you content….or at least you should be.
- Rob Logan | The Geek Generation19. ledna 2025Really enjoyed most of this, though a few narrative choices left me scratching my head. To be fair, this isn't quite as much about the literal narrative as it is about the classic "grass is always greener" lesson for its protagonist suffering with endless imposter syndrome. Sebastian Stan is once again at the top of his game.
- Kevin Ward1. července 2025Really surprised how funny this was. Had our audience cracking up throughout. I was taken aback when I saw Renate Reinsve on screen, didn’t realize she was in this but was enamored with her all over again. Sebastian Stan is excellent in the lead and the story takes ironic turn, after ironic turn, after ironic turn. An exploration of inner beauty vs outer beauty, identity and transformation, but almost in the opposite direction than we typically experience it, as in something like The Substance. Really fun watch.

A to doslova. Operace se vydaří nad očekávání a Edward rázem vypadá jako úplně obyčejný Američan středního věku. Brzy však zjišťuje, že ztráta výjimečnosti, byť okolím vnímané spíš negativně, mu schází víc, než by čekal. Změna, která měla být lepšímu, ho vyšle na životní dráhu, jež končí ve stanici „Všechno je špatně“.
