Tron: Ares
All style no substance. Can’t believe they wasted such a high budget on a generic story when they nailed down the visuals and soundtrack. Action was somewhat decent. Tron as a universe has the ability to explore matrix level philosophical concepts but the writers didn’t bother with any of that here. Another cool universe that got flushed down the toilet by corporate Hollywood 😪

On a big picture level, the story is nothing great and I get that the plot is kind of a repeat of Way of Water but goddamn this movie was pure entertainment. For a 3+ hour long runtime, it was incredibly well paced with non stop tension. The stakes feel so high, and the villains are insanely mean and menacing. Visuals were eye dropping, especially in IMAX 3D and it boggles my mind how they make these films. The movie has its flaws but I don’t care, I enjoyed the hell out of it and is a must watch in theatres.

One Battle After Another
One of the best thrillers ever made. Staying true to the title, the movie is nonstop frenzy that keeps on giving. It’s funny af while also keeping you on edge the entire time. The story beats are completely unpredictable since Bob himself struggles with his next moves while Lockjaw’s twisted focus closes in on him and his daughter. The acting is just phenomenal, with Sean Penn stealing the show. His character definitely enters the hall of fame for movie villains. Benicio del Toro’s Sensei killed it with that badass poise. Leo was plain hilarious while also making the audience care deeply about his love for his daughter. Willa was also played really well, looking forward to seeing this actress in future movies. And god, Teyana Taylor is fucking magnetic in that intro. This movie is crazy, the characters are crazy and PTA is one mad lad. Very few directors manage to get me to shelve out 5 stars for a bunch of their movies. I view this movie purely as a Hollywood thriller flick which is what my rating is based on, I don’t care that it lacks political or meaningful messages despite its revolutionary themes. It’s about a washed up former rebel who’s just trying to save his daughter, nothing more. And it’s still pretty realistic, it’s extremely hard to escape the might of military superpowers, and revolutions often fail and lose steam and hope. Idk why leftists cry over shit like this, like just go start and focus on your own revolution instead of getting mad at films that are made for pure entertainment, Hollywood isn’t your saviour and never will be. Also go see this in IMAX while you can, not only is the filmmaking absolutely glorious but the score is fantastic too and the final scene is an all time classic that can only truly be enjoyed on the big screen.

I Am What I Am 2
One of the best martial arts movies I’ve seen in a long time. The story itself is simple, but the fights, animation, soundtrack, emotions and visuals are absolutely fantastic. It’s such a shame that China barely promotes these movies in the western sphere anymore. Though this is a sequel that is enhanced by watching the first movie, you can still watch this as a standalone film and enjoy the hell out of it. Also highly recommend checking out the Soundtrack Album coz it’s an absolute banger.

Sweet and simple deconstruction of marriage, dating and the feeling of love and how their differing endgames intertwine. Plot itself is okay and the characters aren’t super interesting but I enjoyed the vibes of the whole movie and liked the big picture conversations it was trying to spark. Decent romance flick to watch with a partner. P.S. Second Pedro Pascal movie in one day and also noticed that the poster is very similar to Fantastic Four.
