ONE PIECE (2023) Ratings & Reviews
- jackmeatFebruary 14, 2025My quick rating - 7.1/10. The live-action adaptation of One Piece brings the beloved pirate adventure to life with vibrant energy and a sense of fun that feels both fresh and true to its fantastical roots. In a seafaring world filled with larger-than-life characters, the show follows the journey of a young and determined pirate captain, Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, as he sets out with his eclectic crew to claim the title of Pirate King and uncover the legendary treasure known as One Piece. Godoy shines as Luffy, bringing an infectious enthusiasm and an endearing sense of wonder to the role. His portrayal captures the spirit of a young pirate with big dreams, and his charisma is a driving force behind the show’s charm. Emily Rudd also impresses as Nami, delivering a performance that balances strength, wit, and complexity, making her a standout character in the ensemble. Despite being aimed at a younger audience, the show’s appeal extends beyond that demographic. The humor is well-timed, offering plenty of laughs without ever feeling forced, and the special effects are surprisingly good, especially for a TV series. The world-building is immersive, drawing viewers into a colorful and adventurous universe full of possibilities. As someone who has never watched the animated series, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this live-action adaptation. It stands on its own as an entertaining fantasy adventure, with a storyline that’s easy to follow and characters that are easy to root for. The blend of action, humor, and heart makes it a delightful watch, whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer to the franchise.
- CallumNovember 3, 2025⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (out of 5) One Piece – The Brightest Adventure on the High Seas One Piece is pure joy bottled into a live-action pirate epic. Even for those who’ve never touched the anime or manga, it’s instantly infectious — a swashbuckling story about freedom, friendship, and chasing impossible dreams. The tale of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy who gains elastic powers and a boundless sense of optimism, becomes a kaleidoscope of colour and chaos that turns piracy into a kind of idealism. What’s striking is how faithfully it captures the heart of its source without feeling like a cosplay convention. The world feels alive — a mix of grit, heart, and absurd wonder — and the cast sells every moment with charm. Where Pirates of the Caribbean lurks in rum-soaked shadows and moral grey, One Piece sails in technicolour sunshine. This is piracy re-imagined as a celebration of courage, loyalty, and laughter — more Care Bears with cutlasses than cursed treasure hunters. It’s addictive, upbeat, and gloriously weird in the best way. Whether you’ve followed the Straw Hat crew for decades or are setting sail for the first time, this is one voyage that reminds you why adventure stories matter. Pairing: A tropical fruit punch — bright, bold, and sweet enough to make you grin, ideally served with a paper pirate flag and a wild sense of freedom.
- RichardOctober 18, 2025Only knew this world from the games, pirates, powers, and chaos. Never watched the anime, never read the manga. Picked up the live action out of curiosity and yeah… they nailed it in my opinion. Monkey D. Luffy is a rubber powered optimist with a dream and the cast brings him and his crew to life with real charm. The tone walks a tightrope: goofy, heartfelt and surprisingly grounded. The sets look lived in, the fights are fun and the world building feels rich without being overwhelming. Iñaki Godoy as Luffy is a standout pure energy and heart. Emily Rudd’s Nami adds depth and even Buggy the Clown works. Watched it as an adult, expecting cringe. Got adventure, emotion and a crew I actually cared about.
