Philippinen: Literatur als Widerstand gegen Diktaturen
Directed by Carsten Stormer2025 53mDocumentary
Behind the idyllic beaches and turquoise lagoons, the Philippines carries a painful past: colonization, exploitation, and oppression of the people have left a deep mark on the collective memory. From Spanish rule in the 16th to 19th centuries to the dictatorships of Ferdinand Marcos and former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is suspected of crimes against humanity in his bloody war on drugs, this history permeates the country's literature. Among its great contemporary voices are Maria Ressa, an American-Filipino journalist and essayist, winner of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, and Jose Dalisay Jr., a best-selling writer whose work denounces the issues of power, repression, and social injustice in his country.
