My Neighbor Totoro Ratings & Reviews
- rhacar6d agoWe enjoyed it, but we didnt understand it much
- gos2011October 11, 2025A magical and fantastic story so simple but near to the end it makes your mind go into some dark places love the characters and the lesson
- Ty LeetApril 18, 2025My father showed me many Ghibli films growing up, and Totoro will forever bring me joy.
- ErikthepaceOctober 4, 2025I'd give it 6 stars if I could. The score is timeless, and the animation is still outstanding for being almost 40 years old. It always puts us in a calm and peaceful state of mind. Such a wonderful film.
- NickyjamesSeptember 11, 2025I didn't see this movie for the first time until about 2010 or so and the charm of the direction was immediately apparent. This movie really touches on themes of childhood whimsy and wonder and magic all while tackling more dramatic and adult themes in the background. I've always liked the idea that magic and other fun stuff like that becomes loft with age and Totoro really drives that idea home in a heartwarming way. And as an American I enjoy seeing what rural Japan might have looked like 80 years ago
- Joshua KSeptember 20, 2025I don’t get the hype. The story is lackluster and hollow. The animation is weird but interesting. Totoro is in like 2 minutes of the film. Weird like the others.

- RichyEAugust 3, 2025This is comfort cinema at its purest. Two sisters move to the countryside to be closer to their hospitalized mother and what they find isn’t just nature, it’s magic. Totoro isn’t just a forest spirit, he’s a symbol of childhood wonder, quiet resilience and the kind of joy that doesn’t need words. Miyazaki’s animation is lush and gentle, with every frame breathing life into the world. The pacing is slow, but intentionally so, it invites you to pause, breathe and feel. There’s no villain, no big twist, just a story about growing up, holding on and letting go. Whether you saw it as a kid or discovered it later, Totoro stays with you. It’s not just a film, it’s a feeling.
- Nick BanasJuly 22, 2025Honestly went into this movie knowing nothing about the studio, the history, nothing. Had a really enjoyable time being whisked off to a world of fantasy and wonder. Great little watch, and still holds up entertainment-wise all these years later.
- mickerdooJuly 7, 2025Cat Bus and Totoro are great. I think it could use some more fantasy and mystical characters. More wonderland. Otherwise sweet.
- NonPlayableContentJune 14, 2025First exposure to Ghibli so its my favorite by default.
- Noah Austin BrooksApril 17, 2025My Neighbor Totoro is an absolute masterpiece! Its charm and warmth create a magical world that captivates the heart like no other.
- Lucas CraparottaApril 4, 2025I love how such a simple plot can create such a magical and captivating movie. Totoro is a timeless masterpiece
- schrafftvortexOctober 25, 2024I can see while people like it so much. Glad I revisited after writing it off as merely a kid's movie. There's genuine human drama in here and a good compliment to Grave of the Fireflies.
