Men in Black II Ratings & Reviews
- RichyEOctober 5, 2025Back then, buying the DVD felt like locking in a franchise. You had the first one, of course, sharp, witty, and endlessly rewatchable. So when MIB II hit shelves, it was a no brainer. The movie is a mixed bag, but still entertaining. Will Smith’s Agent J is now the seasoned vet and Jones’s Agent K has to be dragged back into the fold, flipping their dynamic from the first film. It’s an interesting idea, but the comedy worked better when J was the rookie reacting to K’s dry alien briefings. This time, the humor leans harder into CGI weirdness: slithering Lara Flynn Boyle, two-headed Johnny Knoxville, giant subway worms. It’s fun, but it doesn’t always land. The villain plot feels thinner and the pacing? Fast. Almost too fast. You can feel the studio trying to keep it tight and punchy, but it leaves little room for the world building that made the first film so rich. Still, the chemistry between Smith and Jones holds up. The banter, the suits, the neuralyzer gags, they’re all here. Watching it on DVD gives me the freedom to skip the fluff and jump straight to the good bits. It’s not the classic the first one was, but it’s a nice sequel with enough charm to earn its spot on my shelf.
- DdoughnutMay 8, 2025This had no reason to be as funny as it was
- Nader AhmedSeptember 1, 2025Didn't find it funny enough
- Rick MastersAugust 14, 2025A galactic step down from the original, MEN IN BLACK 2 relies too heavily on special effects that are clearly stretched far beyond their ability. The narrative is a bit of a mess too, with a terrible villain and weird side characters… Still, there’s some fun to be had thanks to some quirky jokes and the on screen banter between Jones and Smith.
- DollaBillz710January 19, 2025Awesome flick! He’s a ball chinnian
- mickerdooJuly 9, 2025Lackluster supporting cast, story and villain. Definitely the weakest of the three.
- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025Major step down from the first one. They try to reverse the dynamic between Jones and Smith. Jones this time plays the role of the fish out of water and Smith plays the seasoned vet. It’s an interesting idea on paper, but the comedy worked so much better the other way around when K’s deadpan explanations of other worldly phenomena, and J’s over the top reactions to everything he sees. This one leans far too heavily into the CGI weirdness, the slithering but sultry Lara Flynn Boyle 👀, the two headed Knoxville, Giant Subway Worms, etc etc. It was sooo much and most of it didn’t age very well. I don’t really like that they basically unravel the perfect ending for K from the first movie. And I really think a sequel with Smith and Fiorentino as partners would have worked really well. I felt my kids enthusiasm for this franchise dwindle a bit too. We’ll see how quickly part 3 makes it into our movie nights.
- ƇMarch 7, 2025It’s okay. Kinda silly. Not as good as the first one… honestly it’s a 3 star but nostalgia… so you know. Actually as I rewatched it just now… I have no recollection of the film itself but I know for a fact I’ve seen it. So I guess it says something about the film not being all that memorable or impressive. The original soundtrack is dope though! Brings back even more memories.
