- Kevin WardJuly 2, 2025Featuring a young Jennifer Jason Leigh and some Tom Savini gore -- this is a pretty mean little thriller. Has a really solid and tense opening kill sequence that ends with a decapitated head in a fish tank. Our killer is a despicable serial rapist and murdered that torments his victims on the phone beforehand. It’s extremely menacing and the few attacks that the show are pretty violent even if they’re not overly graphic. I loved the news broadcast that was featured here complete with a wacky weatherman and that the lead female news anchor was the only broadcaster that seemed concerned about the rapist/murderer. She starts taking matters into her own hands to catch the phone freak. It was cool to see Jennifer Jason Leigh. This was actually her debut film, apparently. It’s a little silly because she plays a blind, deaf, mute woman whose conditions are seemingly psychosomatic. Her specific ailment lends itself well to the giallo feel of the film. I have to admit I always feel a little icky looking back on a debut like this for JJL. Picturing an 18 y/o coming to set and being given no dialogue whatsoever, but she is of course asked to show her breasts multiple times. Funny how that works sometimes. Still cool to see her debut and it’s a pretty solid thriller with a menacing baddy.
- Matthias_812April 3, 2025Stellar slasher in a dark grimy city landscape. Women are being picked off one by one in gruesome ways- it's a moderately mean film. Tom Savini handles the blood so it's looking incredible. One instance of a man getting his head cut off with a cleaver then showing the decapitated head inside a fish tank was a treat. Another phenomenal effect of a man getting shot in the head, looking quite realistic. Jennifer Jason Leigh is awesome again even being restricted to a character that's deaf, mute, and blind. Fans of Maniac, New York Ripper, and 10 to Midnight will vibe with this.
