In the future, crime is out of control and New York City's Manhattan is a maximum security prison. Grabbing a bargaining chip right out of the air, convicts bring down the President's plane in bad old Gotham. Gruff Snake Plissken, a one-eyed lone warrior new to prison life, is coerced into bringing the President, and his cargo, out of this land of undesirables.

- cook91February 22, 2025Hardly any dialog. Good movie to watch.
- andy b2d ago3/5 or like id say 70% idk. fun movie - carpenter and KR match made in heaven. fun light action and good for a halloween/spooky movie vibe that's light and entertaining enough to get you reinstalling MGS or deus ex for the 20th time
- myk34September 10, 2025Whilst a little dated, it's a classic nonetheless
- RichyEAugust 31, 2025It’s always a shame that when John Carpenter makes a movie, it rarely gets the recognition it deserves right away. His films are slow burns and misunderstood at first, then rediscovered and rewatched. Escape from New York is no exception. The atmosphere, the synth score, the bleak satire all adds up to a film that’s now considered a cult classic. Escape from New York is gritty, stylish, and unapologetically strange. It’s a film that dared to be different and like so many of Carpenter’s works, it found its audience not in the moment, but in the years that followed. I loved it when I saw it for the first time and still do, a true cult gem.
- jaymz442July 27, 2025Good movie
- thekingnootApril 15, 2025Sci-fi classic!
- Janet StephensAugust 16, 2025Buffering where the movie was concerned is good. However, the ads keep freezing and that's not cool at all. I suggest that y'all get that BS fixed. Otherwise watching the movie was good.
- mellisfJuly 3, 2025worth every minute.
- Tamie SchwegerlAugust 10, 2025Love this movie
- ᥴꪖ᥅ꪶJune 4, 2025Kurt Russell is simply the King of cool as "Snake Plissken" in Legendary Director John "Halloween" Carpenter's classic Sci-Fi "Escape From New York". In the movie ex Special Forces Operative, now turned Convict and Prisoner "Snake Plissken" is forced to head into New York City (now a walled escape proof Prison), find and retrieve the President of the United States (After Airforce one has crash landed in New York), and get out alive. Kurt Russel is brilliant as the wise cracking "Plissken . . Call him Snake", definitely one of/if not the coolest Cinematic Character creation ever. The action is violent, brutal and crisp, and there is an energy that runs completely through the film. As always Legendary Director John Carpenter conjures up plenty of atmosphere in this taut, tense, action cracker. Simply brilliant.
- Todd “Megatron” ScullyAugust 2, 2025This was a great movie for the start of a great franchise of movies. There's a second movie "From L.A." is even better. Hoping for a third with Russell.
- Risk The BardApril 22, 2025This was just really campy and I enjoyed it, alright.
- Aaron SladeApril 20, 2025Hell Yes - What a film! Kurt in his prime, John about to hit his prime next (The Thing). Its a fun ride start to finish
- lightvalveOctober 27, 2024I love it. It’s an interesting premise well executed. The great cast makes it a classic.
