Legendary Director John "Halloween" Carpenter, gives us arguably the first movie version of the life of the greatest Entertainer in History, the Iconic Elvis Presley. Long term "Carpenter" collaborator Kurt Russel (The Thing, Escape From New York), stars as "Elvis" in this made for Television movie that was Edited and Re-cut for Cinematic release in Europe. The film see's "Elvis" preparing for his first Concert in Las Vegas, but wracked with nerves "Elvis" re-lives the events of his Life, and his rise to stardom that have led him to that point. Kurt Russel is terrific as ""Elvis", and the movie and subject matter is handled expertly and respectfully by John Carpenter whose guiding hand can be felt in every frame of the film. If your new to the "Elvis" experience, then this movie will certainly peak your interest in the life and times of "Elvis Presley", and if your new to the film's of John Carpenter, boy oh boy have you got some classic movies to watch in the future.

John Carpenter's Elvis expertly tackled the star's complex life in intimate fashion, deconstructing his public persona.
Alternate Ending
Tim Brayton
There's nothing "wrong" with this instinct to heal the hearts of (and extract advertising dollars from) a grieving nation, but dramatic it ain't.
Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)
John Beifuss
Respectful, unpretentious and elegant (a Carpenter characteristic), if somewhat ungainly in its substitution of California real estate for Memphis and Mississippi locations, the modestly budgeted 'Elvis' remains the definitive screen portrayal of Presley.

[John] Carpenter... puts the dramatic focus on the relationships and tricky social dynamic with the male friends who became Elvis support group and entourage.
