Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson7.991%89%
Adult film director Jack Horner is always on the lookout for new talent and it's only by chance that he meets Eddie Adams who is working as a busboy in a restaurant. Eddie is young, good looking and plenty of libido to spare. Using the screen name Dirk Diggler, he quickly rises to the top of his industry winning awards year after year. Drugs and ego however come between Dirk and those around him and he soon finds that fame is fleeting.

Boogie Nights Ratings & Reviews
- Daniel GustavssonOctober 12, 2024Such a fantastic movie. It has so much feeling and atmosphere. The characters and story are great too.

- pukkatruckerOctober 23, 2025The God Only Knows needle drop was perfect😍 I had started this once or twice before and never got round to finishing it or even passing the half hour mark. Finally decided to knuckle down and get through it. I really enjoyed it- probably my third fav PTA behind Phantom Thread and One Battle After Another. Boogie Nights is bold, exciting and confident, especially in its direction in comparison to more controlled and quieter films later in PTA’s career. I was a fan of the direction in this, especially loved the direction of the scene of the split between Dirk and Jack, and the drug deal gone wrong too. It’s fast and striking- whereas his other films take a slower and more relaxed view of the characters. For example, the direction of Phantom Thread doesn’t need to do anything dazzling or extra- as it’s gentle and slow. Boogie nights feels like a sprint on a running track whereas Phantom Thread feels like a gentle stroll in the park. The camera is practically dancing in Boogie Nights; but in Phantom Thread the camera lingers. It doesn’t follow; it watches. The difference in direction of the two films really shows why Paul Thomas Anderson is credited as being one of the best in the industry. A really powerful scene to me was Dirk’s rejection of Scotty J, and his breakdown afterwards. The film was constantly going at 100mph but the film took a pause at that moment, and it was really powerful to me. It’s really disappointing that Mark Wahlberg decides to star in constant renditions of practically the same film, when he’s clearly capable of so much more. He delivers solid performances in both Boogie Nights and The Departed, hes clearly a good actor when he’s put to it. I just hope he can go out of his comfort zone again and act in good films, he’s got the talent! Totally different to PTA’s later films, the others may be considered more relaxed and nuanced, but PTA still delivers a fantastic film in Boogie Nights!
- wonderrxjrSeptember 22, 2025PTA, that was crazy big dog how did you make that at 26. Getting some more of PTA in before OBAA (seeing in film, so excited!). This was really interesting to watch. The vibes are so so good, but I feel like it was losing me at the end. Seeing Dirk though fall was really interesting. Loved all the characters and I especially loved Scotty, Philip Seymore Hoffman you fucking rule brother. Not at all what I was expecting but I'm glad I watched! Gotta keep rolling with this PTA stuff I love it so much
- Kristian OdlandJuly 30, 2025Everyone in this movie except Burt Reynolds is channeling their inner Ned Flanders!
- Richard ThorntonJuly 22, 2025P.T. Anderson feels the most like Tarantino here. This is his best movie.
- Aaron SladeJuly 8, 2025When I walked out of the cinema after seeing this at age 20, I knew I had just seen a modern classic. Now 27 years later later, I stand by that even more! On DVD, this was my go-to first movie to watch - and it worked like a charm every time :)
- ƇFebruary 20, 2025One of my fav movies. Unfortunately alot of people will think it's just about porn. But its soo much more. Easily Mark Whalbergs best film.
