- Mister ArnOctober 12, 2024Roger Corman movie with a better monster, but the rest of this film falls short.
- Charles YnfanteSeptember 22, 2025Attack of the Giant Crab Monsters is about an hour long. Around 40 to 45 minutes into this mini-movie, the audience is given a complex and convoluted five minute explanation on how chemestry, radiation, electricity, and everything else provide a motive for the giant creatures. . In my opinion, the story is not entertaining. In many ways, the story and direction strains reason, logic, and patience. . A group of 10 experts arrive on a small island. They are there to find out what happened to the first group of experts who mysteriously disappeared during a typhoon. . The group stays in the only house on this small island. What goes unexplained is: where are they getting all their electricity? . One by one, they are killed. This happens because: 1. They are out at night alone. 2. Plain stupidity. 3. Needless accidents. 4. And because of the giant crabs. . At the end of this mini-movie, only two chara ters are left. There is no explanation how they survive until nelp arrives, if it arrives at all. . As the movie progresses, the characters hear the voices of those killed by the crabs. This leads the audience fo believe that this is a ghost story, not a science fiction story. The voices are coming from the stomachs of the gjant crabs. The voices are luring their victims to their death by the crabs. The characters can hear these voices even though they are far away from the creatures. . The musical soundtrack is standard, basic, and cliche. This is not necessarily a bad thing. . There are a couple of chilling and potentially terrifying moments in this bland and boring novie. 1. One is seeing someone's hand get chopped off by a falling rock while the character screams in horror. 2. The other is seeing a prostrate person being pinned to tne ground by his neck an ankles from the claws of the giant crab. Though you don't actually see --- but know--- he is being eaten. . These two scenes are the total thrills in this hour long movie. . I will admit that the gjant crabs are cool-looking in their low-buget way. This is the only highlight in this phony ghost-voice movie. Review by Charles Ynfante.
