A Christmas Horror Story Ratings & Reviews
- jackmeatAugust 21, 2025My quick rating - 6.0/10. Hoping to find another decent Xmas horror flick. I haven't seen this anthology, but it has been sitting in my playlist for a couple of years now. I have to say, out of all the flicks that have been sitting, this one should've been viewed long before. On Christmas Eve, an overnight radio host, William Shatner, who they stole for a day's filming, is telling stories of some old tales. The year before, two kids were killed in a local school, and some teens were doing their reports on them, and got locked in the basement. This is just the first of the stories that are being told to haunt the overnight listeners in this anthology, which is also loosely tied together to an ongoing story that goes back and forth throughout the horror shorts. None of the stories themselves is very original, but they are very competent. All four of them are nicely filmed and each has its own complete style to it while still holding along with the main theme, which at first you may not realize is being told. For a low-budget flick, the gore effects were actually very well done and such a breath of fresh air. At first, it doesn't even appear to be an anthology movie, so hopefully, that won't scare you off, since the sum of all parts, being the Santa vs the Elves story, is easily worth it, and the other stories are just nice breathers to get to the finale. The way it is told does take you back and forth a bit, but at no point confusing. I would say that if I were to rate each story, they would all be mediocre, but the latter takes it up a notch, and when the entire story is realized, the flick is that much better. Taking some old-school-type horror stories and adapting them for Xmas was a perfect way to bring in Christmas Eve, and one that will be in my collection. Check it out.
- Daniel GustavssonOctober 11, 2024Amazing little horror movie with bits and pieces from various different themes. We have some creepy children, some possession, some ominous old people. Oh, and of course a full out gorefest when Santa is going berserk. There are 4 stories going parallel in the film and I'd say they all worked really good and were interesting. And there was a really good twist to it all which I didn't see coming until it slammed an axe in my face. All in all a very good horror flick! And don't worry about the comedic premise. It's slightly amusing at some few times but has an overall serious tone. I'd recommend this no matter the time of the year.
