Returning from the military service, soldier Kuzma found his native village ruined and devastated. Survivors told him that the Serpent Gorynych flew to them, and the local governor instead of protecting them also robbed them, and even requires a quitrent for the king. People thought to flee from the murderers to where their eyes look. And the soldier began to stop the iniquity.
