The Choreographer

Directed by Christopher Lukas

Lisa deRibere danced for nine years with Balanchine, and 8 years with Baryshnikov. Since then, she has choreographed 81 dances all over the country. This film takes Debera and 11 dancers in the upper echelons of Barnard College's dance department from January of 2010 to April of 2010 -- preparing a performance choreographed to two movements of Schubert's Trout Quintet. We learn about deRibere, we learn the details of dance preparation. And we enjoy ourselves in this 16:9, colorful production. The young women who dance and Ms. Debera herself are charming, voluble, and talented,; the young women, especially, as the choreographer says, are 'more talented than I expected.'
