Roots of Oblivion

Directed by Jorge Monteallegre
2015    60m    TV-PG
Perhaps you heard this story over and over again, I'm not sure. but when I was 4 years old, I witness what for many people is the worst experience in their life. for me, this utopia of a lineage, is a symbol of life... until not to long ago I didn't understand or care about my origins....well I didn't have one. like all the people from my town, I lost my roots, my history, my origins and at the same time I'm part of a story... and that's exactly why I'm doing this film, to tell our true story..... Roots of Oblivion is the story of several survivors of the lahar of Armero in Colombia cause by a volcanic eruption in November of 1985. The government knew about this and did nothing to evacuate the comunity. As a result of this neglect, 25.000 people died. Now 30 years later, the survivors deal with the consequences that this event has had on their lives. The inexorable passage of time as their personal tragedies diluted into oblivion in an indifferent and irresponsible country without memory or respect. 30 years later, the remains of the city are reclaimed by Mother Nature, consumed and intertwined by caucho roots signifying exactly what we lost. Characters who narrate this story, survived the catastrophe that forever marked their lives. The scars remain and grow in their hearts. They lead us through several views of the same story, resulting in different outcomes.
