Set in the sparsely populated fishing villages of southern Nova Scotia, Plains is a docufiction that observes the curious lives of Jon and Cat, a young couple developing politically engaged video games. Putting the spotlight on an alternative lifestyle on the fringes of Canada's tech expansion, we get a glimpse of a rare instance in which modern digital practice runs wild in the slowly decaying world of mechanical industry, as Jon navigates the multiple paradoxes of togetherness and solitude, creativity and labour, and using technology as an attempt to grasp a freer and more playful version of reality.
