It serves as the sequel to the 2018 movie "K.G.F: Chapter 1." Rishab Shetty plays a dual role alongside Kambala champion Kishore, who portrays Murali, a principled forest officer. The plot unfolds in the enigmatic Kantara forest and centers on the tensions between human residents and nature during the 1990s in Keradi, Karnataka. Released on 30 September 2022, the film received positive reviews for its acting, direction, soundtrack, and depiction of Bhuta Kola. Achieving significant box office success, it became the second highest-grossing Kannada film ever following its own predecessor released earlier that year. It also ranked as the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2022. A prequel, "Kantara: Chapter 1," is scheduled to start filming in November 2023 and is set for release towards the end of 2024.
