Hundreds of thousands of people were in Holmenkollen during the 2011 Winter World Championships, and many of them used Holmenkollbanen to get out into the fields and arenas. The Holmenkollen track, which opened in 1898 and became the first suburban railway in the Nordic region, is today a part of Oslo's T-rail network, and transports residents and tourists to Holmenkollen and Frognerseteren.
