Directed by Frank StoyeValentin, a destitute vagabond, tries his luck in the rat-infested city. It is fortunate that Master Argus, the great sorcerer of the land and adviser to the queen, needs an apprentice right now. Valentin is sure that magic is just right for him. Although the exam shows his amazing talent, he is tricked by Katrina, the only competitor, and doesn't get the job. Instead, he finds shelter in the pharmacy of old master Zacharias. Valentin sets out on his own to learn the art of magic. Starting with the plague of rats that appeared and disappeared overnight, he uncovers a series of secrets that are all miraculously linked.
