A man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son. When he is humiliated by a group of locals, the man is drawn into a conflict that keeps rising and pushes him to his breaking point.

In classic Nicolas Cage fashion, THE SURFER is yet another surreal, unbalanced, hallucinogenic mind fuck. I love the originality and there are some fun moments… but they are small splashes in a sea of boredom. Not to mention the climax completely stumbles off its surf board. A bit of a wipeout really.
