This one’s pure pulp fantasy sepia toned, art deco, and unapologetically retro futuristic.
Giant robots stomp through 1930s New York, Jude Law flies a plane like he’s auditioning for The Rocketeer 2 and Gwyneth Paltrow channels peak Lois Lane with a camera and a death wish.
Angelina Jolie shows up in an eyepatch and steals the movie in five minutes flat.
Visually? Gorgeous. Like Metropolis got a digital remaster and a Red Bull. The story? Thin. It’s more about the mood than the mission. Dialogue tries for screwball charm, but sometimes lands like a lead zeppelin.
Still, it’s a love letter to golden age serials and when it clicks, it’s magic.
A bold, beautiful oddity that deserved more love and maybe a franchise. Instead, it’s a stylish one off that lives in the “what could’ve been” file.
