The Covenant

Guy Ritchie's The Covenant follows US Army Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Afghan interpreter Ahmed (Dar Salim). After an ambush, Ahmed goes to Herculean lengths to save Kinley's life. When Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given safe passage to America as promised, he must repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down first.
Those going into this expecting an early Guy Ritchie film like "Lock, Stock" or "Snatch" may be disappointed, because this film is about a serious subject matter. While there are some humorous bits, it's a tense action film that treats that subject matter appropriately. Jake Gyllenhaal is solid, as always, in the lead role, but it's Dar Salim's excellent performance throughout his screen time that's the real treat here.
