Based on Charlaine Harris’s book series, this first entry sets the tone for what becomes a long-running guilty pleasure: a librarian with a knack for deduction and a talent for stumbling into trouble.
Candace Cameron Bure plays Aurora “Roe” Teagarden with the same warmth and wholesome charm that made her so beloved as DJ Tanner in Full House. She’s the perfect amateur sleuth — clever enough to piece things together, naive enough to get in over her head, and kind enough that you can’t help but root for her. Marilu Henner, as her ever-concerned mother, is a standout. She brings a wonderful blend of maternal worry and quiet pride, grounding the story every time the plot gets too cozy for its own good.
The supporting cast add texture to Roe’s world — her loyal best friend, the husband who’s perhaps a bit too aware of their friendship, and the community that alternates between adoring her and wondering why so many bodies seem to follow her around.
