A college professor is working on a long term experiment when a baseball comes through the window destroying all his glassware. The resultant fluid causes the baseball to be repelled by wood. Suddenly he realizes the possibilities and takes a leave of absence to go to St. Louis to pitch in the big leagues where he becomes a star and propels the team to a World Series appearance.

Before Fred MacMurray (The Absent Minded Professor) accidentally invents "Flubber" gas, Ray Milland (It Happens Every Spring) unintentionally creates a substance that repels wood. Hint: think what a little of that could do to a baseball when pitched to a batter. Yeah, the premise is kind of hokey and some eye rolling is inevitable but the plot will keep you watching and maybe induce a smile or two. Probably best enjoyed by kids and families. For the rest, it's more of a curiosity than a good movie.
