i tried watching this on three separate occasions in the past week and fell asleep each time. tonight i locked in and watched it all the way through, but at what cost? it’s so bland and uninspired, and eschewing the found footage format makes it feel atonal with the rest of the series and also removes the only thing that would’ve made it seem somewhat interesting. the acting is also so dull and everything feels like a first take. there are certainly worse films out there, but i might actually glean more entertainment out of them because this was just so barren. this movie is made even more disappointing because it feels like it tried to retcon and tie together all of the previous films and fumbled that horribly; the carmichael manor already accomplished that without needing to explain every little connection and ended up being the best installment of the series, so i genuinely don’t understand what any of us are doing here. the only scene with any sort of sauce is the exorcism scene purely for the gore and sound design.
