Johnny Be Good

Johnny Be Good
It's recruiting time and despite being short and scrawny, Johnny Walker is America's hottest young football prospect. His dilemma: should he take one of the many offers from college talent scouts or should he attend the local state college with his girlfriend and give up his football career?

A very odd and unfortunate misfire. The movie is propulsive and surreal, and its story of a young football prospect who needs to make an important life decision is a solid one, but it wasn't executed well. The music is overbearing and the surreal/comic aspects are mishandled, just extra noise drowning out a potentially gratifying and profound (if well-worn) story.
Maybe a Jared Hess (Gentlemen Broncos) could've done it with the right balance of weirdness, affection, and seriousness.
