The Siege of Firebase Gloria

The Siege of Firebase Gloria
The film's thin veneer of social propriety (the story of how the VietCong came under Hanoi's control) is merely a cover for a rolicking old-time battle tale, complete with a hard-tack sergeant, his rebellious sidekick, and a demoralized base that needs to be whipped into shape before the VietCong attack.

“The Siege of Firebase Gloria” puts R. Lee Ermey in a familiar drill-sergeant role, though here he reveals flashes of humanity beneath the bark. The plot is simple: a remote firebase under relentless attack, but its raw, nonstop violence gives it a gritty drive. It’s a B-movie at heart, yet Ermey’s presence makes it worth watching.
