The Marksman is a grey action film in which Liam Neeson plays an old, down-on-his-luck Arizona rancher who reluctantly becomes the protector of a young Mexican boy from evil cartel hitmen. The film’s tension comes from shootouts because you know where it’s heading, and the story reaches its conclusion without any major surprises. Neeson’s screen presence anchors the film. While the story doesn’t reach for greatness, the ending does earn a quiet kind of integrity.
