⭐⭐⭐½ (out of 5) “50 States of Fright” is a horror anthology that sets out to map America’s nightmares one state at a time — and it’s a wild, uneven ride through the nation’s creepiest folklore. The premise is gold: urban legends brought to life with modern production and just enough realism to make you keep the lights on. When it works, it really works. The first season is pure campfire terror — short, sharp bursts of storytelling that feel like a love letter to late-night horror marathons and whispered small-town legends. It’s stylish, unsettling, and surprisingly clever with how it blends regional myth with cinematic flair. But the second season wanders into different stylistic territory — more experimental, more polished in places, but somehow less gripping. It’s not bad by any stretch, just inconsistent enough to turn a five-star concept into a 3.5-star execution. Think of it as the love child of Creepshow and American Horror Stories, raised by an uncle who collects cursed postcards from every state line. When it hits its stride, it’s hauntingly good; when it misses, it’s still the kind of miss that makes you peek out your window just to be sure no one’s there.
