Saw it on TV in the 80's and it felt like stepping into a department store where the staff were cheekier than the mannequins.
Set in the fictional Grace Brothers store, this British sitcom follows the misadventures of the sales staff in the ladies’ and gentlemen’s departments.
It’s packed with sexual innuendo, slapstick and double entendres, all delivered with impeccable timing and outrageous flair.
Frank Thornton’s Captain Peacock struts with pomp, John Inman’s Mr. Humphries flutters with camp brilliance and Mollie Sugden’s Mrs. Slocombe steals scenes with her ever changing hair and feline obsessions.
The humor is broad, the stereotypes bold and the punchlines unapologetically vintage.
Watching it again is like revisiting a time when sitcoms didn’t hold back and somehow made risqué jokes feel like family fun.
The sets may be cardboard, but the laughs are solid gold.
