So Netflix decided to animate Lara Croft and give her a voice that sounds like she could lecture at Oxford and punch a dinosaur in the same breath. Hayley Atwell steps in as Lara and honestly? She nails it. There’s poise, grit and just enough sass to make you believe she could survive a temple collapse and still critique the architecture. The series picks up after the Crystal Dynamics reboot trilogy, so we’re in full “trauma meets tomb” mode. Lara’s globe trotting again, chasing ancient mysteries while unpacking emotional baggage like it’s a Samsonite sale. The animation? Slick. Stylized. Occasionally over lit, but hey it’s Netflix, not Ghibli. Each episode feels like a playable cutscene: zip lines, relics, flashbacks and the occasional moral dilemma. Supporting cast is solid, though some voice performances feel like they were recorded in a broom closet. Still, the pacing’s tight and the lore deep enough to keep longtime fans nodding. Atwell’s Lara is the lore nerd’s dream: emotionally layered, technically competent and finally free from the burden of live action physics. It’s not the most daring adaptation, but it’s respectful, well paced and clearly made by people who’ve played the games and cried during Rise of the Tomb Raider’s final cutscene.
