But despite that, I still *love* this show—I’ve rewatched it more than a dozen times. A lot of the experiences hit close to home for me, especially having a bipolar alcoholic mother and a problematic alcoholic (step)father. The acting throughout is absolutely incredible and really brings everything to life.

Macy’s gloriously shameless Frank, it’s a circus of addicts, hustlers, geniuses, and dreamers all clawing to survive the system and themselves. Every actor fires on all cylinders. Jeremy Allen White (Lip) went from “that kid with potential” to bona fide star, while Emmy Rossum’s Fiona remains the show’s backbone — the overburdened matriarch who shoulders everyone else’s mistakes until the weight finally breaks her. And Macy? He’s an artist of chaos, playing Frank as both prophet and parasite, the man you hate but can’t stop watching. What makes Shameless special is its honesty.
