However, after a couple of dreamy days and nights, Whitman decides to reveal his "true self". He tells Martha he's going to take her on a fun date...they are going to go shoplifting. This is the just the beginning of the swell times ahead! Poor Martha! Will she never find true love? DeGeneres and Pullman display full-octane comedy in this film. The viewer can not help but laugh at their antics. And the supporting cast is such a dream, with Joan Cusack, Dean Stockwell, Joan Plowright and others! The script is humorous, the costumes are a pleasure, the San Diego setting is very nice, what more could one ask for? Please give this film a try, you'll like it!

Třicetiletá Marta Alstonová pracuje jako producentka jedné televizní talk show. Nemá jednoduchý život, zejména od té doby, co se její mladší sestra vdala. Každého, i rodiče, najednou zajímá, kdy do toho praští. Jenže Marta má na chlapy smůlu a stále nemůže najít toho pravého. Až jednou, je zrovna Valentýn, se objeví ON, pohledný, inteligentní a laskavý Whitman Crawford, který se zdá být přesně tím dokonalým mužem, o kterém sní každá žena. Je z toho láska jako trám. Jenže pak udělá Marta chybu, když svému milému v dobrém rozmaru řekne, že když je s ní, může se uvolnit a být sám sebou. A to je chvíle, kdy se sen jménem Whitman Crawford změní v noční můru. Okouzlující muž se totiž změní v podivného patrona, který poslouchá naprosto příšernou hudbu, krade v samoobsluze, nabízí jí LSD a chová se jako šílenec zralý pro psychiatra. A co je nejhorší, za každou cenu se s ní chce oženit.
